In the Fall of 2005, St. John’s University completed the
construction of Taffner Field House — a $16 million, 43,000
square-foot facility that now serves as the home of St. John’s
men’s and women’s basketball.
The field house is named for longtime benefactors Donald and
Eleanor Taffner. Mrs. Taffner, a member of the University Board of
Trustees, and her husband Donald, a St. John’s alumnus, have long
been strong supporters of the University, specifically its athletic
programs.
The field house features state-of-the-art amenities dedicated to
the Red Storm basketball programs. Modern features include:
- Four full size basketball courts — two for Student Life, two
for Varsity Basketball.
- New offices and meeting rooms for men’s and women’s
basketball.
- Audio/visual rooms and a press conference area for the varsity
basketball teams.
- Dedicated locker rooms for men’s and women’s basketball.
- Team areas and meeting rooms for Red Storm players and
coaches.
- Exclusive weight training and medical training rooms for men’s
and women’s basketball.
