QUEENS, N.Y. -
St. John's women's soccer forward Kelly McConnell will participate in the Papal Youth Rally on Saturday. McConnell is part of a group of 10 Red Storm students that were invited to attend the Rally at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers, N.Y.
McConnell and the St. John's group will assemble with hundreds of other young people and seminarians from the area. The day begins at noon and is filled with prayer and entertainment. Pope Benedict XVI is scheduled to speak at 4 p.m.
On April 14, a Papal flag was raised in front of St. Augustine Hall to mark the historic visit of the Holy Father. On April 15, McConnell participated in the program on campus entitled St. John's Students Encourage University Community to Participate in the Papal Visit. This event invited faculty and students to submit forms with prayer intentions that will be taken to Yankee Stadium on Sunday for the afternoon Papal Mass, which the STJ group will be attending.
Both events this weekend can be viewed via simulcast at St. Thomas More Church. Saturday's Youth Rally will be simulcast beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday April 19, while Sunday's Papal Mass simulcast will begin at 2 p.m.
