Trio Of Red Storm Athletes Honored By Wooden Cup Committee

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's athletes Steve Forster, Joy McCorvey and Renee Cloutier were recognized by The 6th Annual Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup committee on Tuesday among the most outstanding role-model athletes in the nation.

The Wooden Cup is given to collegiate and professional athletes who have made the greatest positive influence in the lives of others. The award recipients will be announced at a ceremony held at the East Lake Golf Club (Atlanta, Ga.) on Jan. 19.

Forster, a senior pitcher, was one of 20 semifinalists and the lone baseball player among the 51 athletes recognized by the Wooden Cup committee. The criminal justice major currently boasts a 3.92 cumulative GPA and he was named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star in 2008 and 2009. Forster was a co-organizer for the St. John the Baptist Church Clean Up this past October. During the 2008-09 school year, he participated in or volunteered for Relay for Life, St. Nick's Men's Homeless Shelter and the Midnight Run.

A senior forward for the Red Storm women's basketball team, McCorvey was one of three women's basketball players among the semifinalists. Majoring in both childhood education and special education, McCorvey currently has a 3.31 cumulative GPA and received the BIG EAST Institutional Basketball Scholar-Athlete Award in 2009. She was named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star in 2008 and 2009. McCorvey has been very active in the community, regularly participating in 10 charitable events over her four years at St. John's. Some of her charitable activities include the Ronald McDonald House, Midnight Run, HeartShare Human Services of New York and Relay For Life.

Cloutier was one of two women's golfers recognized by the committee. The Red Storm senior was named an honorable mention. Cloutier owns a 3.88 GPA as a speech-language pathology audiology major. A three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star, she won the All-BIG EAST Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete Sports Excellence Award in 2009. In 2007, she was named as a National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar. She has been a regular at 12 different charitable events during her four years at St. John's. Some of her good works include service at the Vincent and Louise House, the Ronald McDonald House St. John's University New Orleans Plunge and the Annual Breast cancer Awareness Fun Run.
