Michael Barry joined the St. John’s University Athletic Department in August 2006 and currently serves as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business Affairs.
As the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business Affairs, Barry oversees the overall management of the department’s budget operations, encompassing financial reporting long term and capital planning, forecasting, internal controls, business operations systems and contract administration. Barry is also responsible for overseeing the ticketing unit for the Athletic Department, as well as serving as sports administrator for the men’s basketball and baseball programs.
Barry came to St. John’s from his alma mater, Iona College, where he spent six years in numerous roles, his final position was Associate Athletic Director for Internal Affairs. In that role Barry managed the day-to-day internal operations for Gael Athletics, which included supervising varsity sports such as men’s soccer, baseball and women’s lacrosse. His responsibilities also included overseeing the department’s Strength and Conditioning, Campus Recreation, Facilities, and Operations and Events units. He also contributed to the planning and construction of Iona’s Hynes Athletic Center, oversaw the department’s Human Resources efforts and assisted with development and marketing.
Prior to his elevation to Associate Athletic Director, Barry served as Iona’s Assistant Athletic Director for Operations, managing the Gaels’ athletic facilities and coordinating competition and practice schedules for all home venues.
Barry was a member of the Cross Country/Track and Field program at Iona College where he received a bachelor’s degree in 2000 and went on to earn an M.B.A. from Iona’s Hagan School of Business in 2003.
Currently, Barry serves as a member of the BIG EAST Cross Country Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field Committee. In addition, Barry is an active member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA) and International Collegiate Licensing Association (ICLA).
Barry currently resides in Wantagh, N.Y., with his wife, Vanessa, daughter, Caitlin, and son, Brendan.
