A right-handed closer candidate who finished among the top five in
the BIG EAST Conference in saves a season ago … compliments a hard
fastball with a split-finger fastball that is an out pitch … excels
in late-game situations and when inheriting runners.
As a Freshman (2006)
Had a 2.67 ERA in a team-high 24 appearances ... was 1-3
with five saves and 28 strikeouts in 30.1 innings … allowed just
seven of a team-high 26 inherited runners to score … led the team
and was tied for fifth in the BIG EAST with five saves ... was tied
for fourth in the league with four saves in conference games …
allowed just 1.48 extra-base hits per nine innings and averaged 8.3
strikeouts per nine innings … struck out 28 batters in his last
25.1 innings, including a career-high seven in 2.2 innings in his
BIG EAST debut at Villanova (March 25) … worked 1.2 hitless and
scoreless innings in earning his fifth save of the season - fourth
of the BIG EAST season - against Seton Hall (May 6) … picked up his
fourth save of the season in the series opener at Rutgers (April
28), allowing one hit and one walk and striking out one in 0.2
innings … saved the series finale against Georgetown (April 2) and
the series opener at Pittsburgh (April 8) in back-to-back BIG EAST
appearances … earned his first career win in the second of a
three-game series at Villanova ... struck out seven and allowed one
hit in 2.2 innings … allowed just one hit to go along with six
strikeouts in three innings against Quinnipiac (March 19) … earned
his first career save at East Tennessee State (March 5), allowing
two hits and no earned runs in two innings … made his collegiate
debut in the season opener at Texas Tech (Feb. 19).

A four-year letterwinner at St. Francis Prep in nearby
Bayside, N.Y. … an All-City selection and Player of the Year by
Newsday and Times-Ledger as a pitcher/designated hitter in 2005…
was the team's Most Valuable Player his sophomore and senior
seasons and received the Primetime Player Award as a junior … went
a perfect 10-0 with a 1.80 ERA his senior season on his way to
All-City honors … struck out 112 in 67.0 innings on the mound and
hit .495 with four home runs at the plate.
