changeup - and can throw them for strikes in any count ... lively
fastball sits in the 88-92 mph range, but has been clocked as high
as 94 ... finished third in the BIG EAST with a .213 opposing
batting average and 26th in the nation with 10.4 strikeouts per
nine innings in 2006 … has the second-lowest ERA among returning

As a Freshman (2006)
Made 15 appearances and 11 starts ... went 3-2 with a 3.66 ERA and
74 strikeouts in 64.0 innings ... led the team and ranked 26th
nationally with 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings ... got better and
better as his 2006 rookie season went on and finished the season
with a 27 inning scoreless streak through the eighth inning of the
Red Storm's BIG EAST Championship opener against West Virginia (May
23) … was 2-0 with a 1.08 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 25 innings in
the month of May (four starts) … ranked third in the BIG EAST in
opposing batting average (.218) and second in opposing batting
average in conference games (.188) ... listed seventh in the
conference with a 3.66 ERA and fourth with a 3.12 ERA in BIG EAST
games ... was part of the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll three times
(March 21, May 8 and May 15) and a part of the College Baseball
Foundation National Honor Roll once (March 21) … started the team's
first BIG EAST Tournament contest against West Virginia and struck
out 11 over 7.1 innings in a no-decision … won his second straight
start against South Florida (May 14), striking out 11 and allowing
three hits over 7.2 scoreless innings … allowed four hits, walked
three and struck out seven in a career-high eight shutout innings
in a BIG EAST win over Seton Hall (May 7) ... struck out seven and
allowed just four hits and two earned runs in a 7.1-inning
no-decision at Pittsburgh (April 8) … made his BIG EAST debut at
Villanova (March 25), allowing four hits and one earned run and
striking out four in 6.1 innings … won his first career game and
threw six dominant innings against Quinnipiac (March 19) ... struck
out 14 and allowed no earned runs on five hits in a 15-3
victory.

A 43rd round selection by the Washington Nationals in the 2005
amateur draft … was listed at No. 46 on Baseball America's Fab 50
Freshman rankings prior to the 2006 season … a two-time All-WMass
League selection … was named The Republican's Pitcher of the Year
and Player of the Year as a senior at Cathedral after going 9-0
with a 0.13 ERA and 120 strikeouts … also hit .588 with six home
runs … received Pitcher of the Year honors from the same
publication as a junior in 2004 … posted an 8-1 record, 0.97 ERA
and 102 strikeouts that season, to go along with a .397 average at
the plate.
