A cerebral pitcher who thrives on keeping hitters off balance … can
throw a fastball, curveball or change-up for a strike in any count
or situation … bounced back from ulcerative colitis symptoms that
kept him out of the 2005 season to earn second team All- BIG EAST
honors in 2006 … has gained 30 pounds in the offseason to get
closer to his natural playing weight.
As a Redshirt Sophomore (2006)
Had a 3-3 record, a 3.94 ERA and one save in 13 appearances
(eight starts) … had 40 strikeouts and just 16 walks in 64 innings
and was second on the team with a 2.5 strikeout-to-walk ratio … was
a second team All-BIG EAST selection … was named the BIG EAST
Pitcher of the Week on Monday, May 8 after throwing his first
career shutout against Seton Hall (May 6) … ranked fifth in the BIG
EAST with a .249 opponent batting average and sixth with a 3.24 ERA
in conference games ... opponents hit just .250 with runners on
base and .237 with two outs … threw his first career shutout
against Seton Hall (May 6), allowing five hits, walking one and
striking out a career-high eight … allowed five runs in the first
two innings, but shut Rutgers out the rest of the way in a 7-6
series-opening win (Apr. 28) ... struck out six batters in the game
and moved his career innings pitched to an even 100 … allowed just
three hits and three runs in 8.1 innings against Connecticut (Apr.
22) ... struck out three and walked two in the loss … threw five
innings of scoreless relief at then-No. 21 Notre Dame (Apr. 15),
allowing three hits and three walks and striking out one … picked
up a save with 3.2 innings of shutout relief against Georgetown
(March 31) ... allowed three hits and one walk and struck out three
… made his first BIG EAST start of the season, earning a win at
Pittsburgh (Apr. 9) by allowing nine hits and three runs in seven
innings … struck out four batters and didn’t allow a hit in two
innings against Columbia (March 26) … made his first start of the
season against Quinnipiac (March 18) ... allowed six hits and one
earned run with five strikeouts in five innings … allowed just one
hit and no runs in a 2.2-inning appearance against then-No. 3

Had a strong freshman campaign for St. John's, posting a 5-2
record with a 2.91 earned run average … appeared in 15 games,
making four starts … threw 58.2 innings, allowing 27 runs (19
earned) on 52 hits with 20 walks and 28 strikeouts … went 3-1 with
a 1.90 in six appearances in six BIG EAST appearances (three
starts) … gave up only seven runs (five earned) on 21 hits, with
seven walks and 13 strikeouts … named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
on April 18 after posting back-to-back wins at Notre Dame and at
Boston College … improved to 5-1 in the regular season finale, a
17-4 win over Pittsburgh (May 23), throwing 6.2 innings, yielding
one earned run on two hits, with two walks and four strikeouts …
came back five days later and threw five innings, giving up one run
on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts, in a 7-1 win at
Boston College (April 17) … threw 6.1 innings against the Irish
(April 12), allowing one unearned run on five hits with two walks
and four strikeouts … earned his first collegiate win in a 9-7
decision against UNC-Asheville (March 13), throwing 5.1 innings and
allowing one run on four hits.
