At 6-foot-6, his height, ability to pitch 'downhill' and arm
strength have gotten Yecker off to a successful start to his
collegiate career … works with a fastball, split-finger fastball
and curveball … his secondary pitches were an area of emphasis over
the offseason, and their development have him in contention for a
spot in the team's BIG EAST rotation.
As a Freshman (2006)
Went 7-1 with a 3.02 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 13 appearances (eight
starts) … led the team and was tied for fifth in the league with
seven wins … had a 6-0 record, 1.62 ERA and .231 opponent batting
average in 44.1 innings as a starter … threw 3.1 scoreless innings
of relief and picked up his seventh win in a 12-7 BIG EAST
Tournament win over West Virginia (May 25) … struck out three and
allowed four hits and one walk … won his second straight decision
with five scoreless innings against Iona (May 10) ... allowed four
hits and two walks and struck out two … allowed just three hits and
one run and struck out five hitters in seven strong innings at New
York Tech (May 2) … worked a career-high 8.2 shutout innings in a
no-decision against Hofstra (April 19) ... struck out a career-high
six and allowed four hits … struck out a career-high five batters
and allowed just one run in beating Wagner (March 29) … threw five
shutout innings to win his third consecutive start at Temple (March
22) ... allowed six hits and struck out one … allowed just three
hits and one run in a career-high seven innings against Albany
(March 14) ... struck out three on his way to winning his second
straight start … won his first career start with five strong
innings at Charleston Southern (March 7) ... gave up five hits and
one run and struck out one … made his collegiate debut against
then-No. 3 Nebraska (Feb. 26), allowing four runs on five hits in
1.2 innings.
At Penn Manor
Lettered in baseball for two years as a pitcher/first baseman at
Penn Manor … was a 2005 All-State selection as a pitcher and earned
Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 All-Star honors as both a
pitcher (first team) and first baseman (second team) … guided the
Comets to a 2005 Pennsylvania State Championship by going 6-3 with
an 0.93 ERA and 105 strikeouts on the mound, as well as hitting
.303 with 10 home runs and 28 RBI … 2004 team was Lancaster-Lebanon
League Section 1 champions, and the Comets posted a combined 46-11
record during his junior and senior seasons.
