St. John’s Head Coach Norm
Roberts
On tonight’s game:
“Give BU credit. They are a very well coached team.
They did a good job defending us. We did a poor job handling
the basketball. We turned it over way too many times for no
reason. I thought we played tight. Our guys wanted to
play well and it made them play tight in situations. I told
my guys that there are going to be nights like this that are bad
and we didn’t play very well but we have to fight through it.
I am happy we won the game and I am happy we fought through
this.”
On the seven game winning streak:
“I think it means we are getting better as a program. I
think it means that we are getting better on a nightly basis.
College football is different. You can just overpower people. In
this situation (college basketball) there are good players
everywhere. We just have to get better everyday.”
On playing Hofstra tomorrow
night:
“Tommy (Pecora) does a great job with his team. They
are very quick. We have to do a good job of defending.
It is going to be a tough game. We can’t let them have open
looks. (Loren) Stokes is one of the best players in the
country. We match up with them in the backcourt. We
have to attack them inside and I think they will do things to stop
that. I think it will be good for our guys. It will be
a challenging game for us coming up on the BIG EAST schedule.”
Junior Guard Avery Patterson
On tonight’s game:
“We played hard the whole game. We played defense the whole
game. I am proud of my team.”
On winning two games in a row:
“It feels good to go on the winning streak. Even
though we didn’t play well, we fought through it.”
Junior Guard Eugene Lawrence
On playing in the Holiday
Festival at Madison Square Garden:
“We are two time defending champions in this tournament and
we treat Madison Square Garden like our homecourt.”
On Hofstra:
“They have tremendous players in the backcourt with (Loren) Stokes
and they have some good guards coming off the bench. We have
matched up with them two years in a row, last year and the year
before so we are familiar
with their play. I think it is going to be a good game.”
Boston University Head Coach Dennis
Wolff
On tonight's game:
"It was a very hard fought game from our standpoint. I think both
St. John's and us should have been better on offense. These games
come down to a few plays and we just didn't get the bounces at
opportune times."
On playing tomorrow night at the
Garden:
"We expanded a lot of energy tonight. The turnaround time on these
things is not ideal for teams. It is a great opportunity for us to
play at the Holiday Festival. I am very appreciative of St. John's
and the people at the Garden. I jsut wish we got two more
points."
