Dexter Gray had 16 points as St. John's opened its season with
a 77-40 rout of Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday night.
Daryll Hill added 14 and
Cedric Jackson 12 for the Red Storm.
Lamont Hamilton had nine points and 13 rebounds to help St.
John's hold a 57-33 overall advantage.
Ed Tyson had 14 points to lead the Hawks (1-3), who were playing
their fourth game in six days.
They shot just 23.8 percent in the first half and committed 18
turnovers.
The Hawks held a 7-6 lead before St. John's scored 19 straight
points with 6:12 left in the first half. Aaron Spears started the
run with a jumper and closed it with a pair of free throws.
The Red Storm held a 31-12 halftime lead.
