St. John's Outlasts Niagara 67-61 For Third Consecutive Win

(AP) - Darryl Hill scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half, and Lamont Hamilton added 15 points and a career-high 17 rebounds to lead St. John's past Niagara 67-61 Saturday.

Eugene Lawrence had 11 points for the Red Storm (3-0), who trailed 37-29 at halftime. Hamilton eclipsed his previous high of 16 rebounds, set against Rutgers last season.

Niagara tied it at 59-all on Charron Fisher's jumper with 3:25 left. Lawrence then made five free throws and Cedric Jackson added a three-point play to secure the win for the Red Storm.

Fisher's 19 points and 13 rebounds led the Purple Eagles (2-1). J.R. Duffey added 11 points.

Duffey's pair of 3-point baskets got the visitors off to a 6-0 lead, but St. John's responded with a 14-7 run behind a pair of baskets by Hamilton to gain its first lead 14-13 at 14:10 of the first half.

After the Purple Eagles moved on top 42-32 on Fisher's 3-point basket early in the second half, St. John's went on a 19-8 run to go up 51-50 with 9:05 to play on Hamilton's three-point play.
