Head coach Eric Rebhuhn is in the midst of his sixth season at
the helm of the St. John's men's tennis team. Last year, the
Red Storm finished fifth at the BIG EAST Tournament, and produced a
13-5 overall record while going 6-1 in conference action.
In addition to their success on the court, Rebhuhn's teams have
excelled in the classroom, posting a grade-point average higher
than 3.4 each year. Last season, two of the Red Storm athletes
received All-BIG EAST Tournament team honors, while four members
were selected as BIG EAST Academic All-Stars. Last year, three
men’s tennis student-athletes were inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma,
the national student-athlete honor society, while senior Claudio
Halim was the recipient of the Arthur Ashe Sport-Scholar Award.
Prior to arriving at St. John's, Rebhuhn spent four seasons as
the head coach of both the men and women's tennis programs at the
University of Northern Iowa. During his last season, the women's
team was ranked as high as 68th nationally.
Rebhuhn played tennis for four years at Concordia College in New
York, winning more than 150 matches. He continues to compete
at a high level and recently finished 2004 nationally ranked third
in the 30-year and over divisions. In addition, Rebhuhn has been
consistently ranked No. 1 or 2 in the East in the 25-year and
30-year and over divisions for the last five years.
A Great Neck, N.Y., native, Rebhuhn earned his bachelor's degree
in psychology from Concordia in 1993 while on a tennis scholarship
and earned his master's degree in physical education with a
specialization in sports psychology at the University of Northern
Iowa.
