A native of Floral Park, NY, Ralph Bednarczyk is in his first
year broadcasting baseball, men’s soccer, women’s volleyball and women’s basketball on Redstormsports.com.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Bednarczyk attended Hofstra
University in Hempstead, New York. A 2003 graduate of Hofstra with
a degree in broadcast journalism, Bednarczyk was Sports Director
for 2 years at one of the top college Radio stations and sports
departments in the country, 88.7 FM – WRHU, guided by former
longtime St. John’s radio analyst Ed Ingles (1985-92). As Sports
Director, he was responsible for personnel recruitment, management,
150-game yearly broadcast schedule, on-air assignments and travel
accommodations. On the air, he broadcast 7 different Hofstra Sports
over four years, including Hofstra football, men’s & women’s
basketball and men’s lacrosse. His career concluded with being
named a finalist for WRHU’s Broadcaster of the Year award in 2002
and 2003. Also a member of the sports staff at Hofstra’s television
station HTV, Bednarczyk hosted and co-produced the 2002 “Midnight
Mania at Hofstra” live broadcast, earning distinctions as a
finalist for Best Sports Program by the National Broadcasting
Society.
After Hofstra, Bednarczyk worked full-time as a researcher at
College Sports Television (CSTV) in New York, New York for two and
a half years, compiling game notes and information for remote
broadcasts and live studio production, script writing for on-air
live reads, occasional web writing contributions and web
voice-overs.
In addition, Bednarczyk has been the voice of the NCAA Men’s
Lacrosse Championships, calling the 2005 & 2006 Div. I, II, and
III Championship games and Div I Men’s Semifinals live on
NCAASports.com from Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field.
On the television side, Bednarczyk broadcasts six different high
school and local college sports on Telecare TV (Ch 29) on Long
Island Cablevision working for Landers Sports Productions for the
last 3 years. In 2006, Bednarczyk broadcast the Reebok ABCD Camp
from New Jersey and the Reebok Big Time Tournament from Las Vegas
on CSTV and worked as a sideline reporter for SportNet NY’s Long
Island Lizards lacrosse broadcasts. Other television broadcasts
have included Manhattan College men’s basketball, the Staten Island
Little League Championships and the NY Metro-area Catholic League
Hockey Championships on RNN-TV.
Some unique experience have been appearing on ESPN’s “Stump the
Schwab” as a contestant and going up against St. John’s alum Howie
Schwab and serving as an instructor the last 2 years at Hofstra’s
School of Continuing Education Sportscasting Workshop’s for Teen’s
& Adults. Bednarczyk’s goals include broadcasting at an Olympic
games, a championship game in pro sports, St. John’s men’s
basketball and having his own sportstalk show.
