Rod Hissong, a native of Hicksville, Ohio, begins his first
season as webcaster for the St. John’s women’s soccer, women’s basketball, lacrosse and softball teams.
Prior to his work with St. John’s, Hissong was a broadcaster for
numerous mediums and programs. He first began broadcasting college
basketball at his alma mater, Wright State University, in Dayton,
Ohio. In 2003, while continuing to broadcast both men’s and women’s
basketball, Hissong became the sports director for WWSU. Then, in
2004, he became General Manager of WWSU.
Hissong continued broadcasting in sports while G.M.; he
broadcast the 2003 high school girls basketball championships in
Ohio, was a broadcaster for the National Indoor Football League
(NIFL) Dayton Warbirds and most recently was the voice of the Miami
Silverbacks of the American Indoor Football League (AIFL).
While in college he broadcasted high school football, college
baseball, high school boys’ and girls’ basketball, college
basketball and indoor football. In 2004 and 2005, Hissong was a
voting media member for the Horizon League’s women’s postseason
awards.
