In my last column, I highlighted the incredible athletic accomplishments of our student-athletes from the 2016-17 season. In case you missed it, here is the link.
Now, I would like to highlight the athletic development team behind our teams, which is also coming off a banner year of hosting successful events and generating resources that have helped our student-athletes excel on and off the field of play.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, season ticket holders, alumni, parents, corporations and friends of St. John's Athletics, the financial contributions made to our program in 2016-17 were among highest in recent years. In fact, it was the second highest total over the last decade in cash contributions raised with a 61 percent increase from the previous fiscal year.
These figures were reached because of nearly 1,900 donors who rallied behind our 300-plus student-athletes by providing support that has allowed us to deliver new resources, such as a variety of support services, cutting-edge equipment and facility improvements.
As I have said many times before, I am truly grateful for our generous benefactors who have invested in the young men and women who represent St. John's so well. Most notably, we appreciate our supporters confidence in our vision for the future of the Red Storm and their continued dedication to help us add to the rich history and tradition our 17 NCAA Division I athletic teams have established.
While fundraising is trending upward, there is still more work to be done in order to provide our student-athletes and coaches the support and resources that rival our fellow BIG EAST members as well as our national competitors.
Thanks to the effort and enthusiasm of my colleagues, we are expanding our footprint in New York City, one fan and one corporate partner at a time. As we continue our forward progress, we will be reaching out to many of our loyal supporters in the coming months to reiterate our vision with the hopes of expanding resources afforded to our student-athletes in order to maximize their potential.

Go Red Storm!
