2012 NCAA Championships

St. John's placed fourth and Evgeniya Kirpicheva won an individual national title at the 2012 NCAA Championships.

Boris Vaksman is set to begin his sixth season as an assistant coach for St. John's. Vaksman has also served as the coach for the United Statesjunior national epee team since 2006. In 2007, Vaksman helped the junior national team compete in the Junior World Championships in Turkey and made an appearance in the 2008 Championships in Italy. He helped coach the squad to a second place finish at the 2010 NCAA Championships.

With more than 25 years of fencing experience, Vaksman has brought a wealth of knowledge to the Red Storm. Originally from the Ukraine, Vaksman is a four-time national epee champion and a four-time Soviet Union Champion. Other championship titles he has won include award-winning performances at the Socialist Republics, Moscow World Cup and Talin World Cup.

During the mid-1980s, Vaksman made the shift to coaching. He served as coach of the Pentathlon team in the Ukraine beginning in 1986 before moving to New York City in 1989. After moving to the U.S., Vaksman took a coaching position with the Sal Bardak fencing club in New York. Currently, he splits his time between St. John's, the New York Fencers Athletic Club, and the National Junior Men's Epee team.

Vaksman graduated from Odessa Polytechnical University in 1983.
