QUEENS, N.Y. - Three Red Storm fencers competed on the junior circuit during the January North American Cup at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Ky. this past weekend. The tournament served as a key part of the selection for the teams that will compete at the Junior and Cadet World Championships in April.
Freshman Margaret McDonald made the highest St. John's finish, tying for 21st place in junior women's saber. The Red Storm rookie placed 21st or higher in four out of her five NAC performances this season, with her best finish being her silver medal result on the junior circuit during the November NAC.
Sophomore Isis Washington made the second best St. John's finish, placing 33rd in junior women's epee. The Parsippany, N.J., native made three top-20 finishes during the NAC season, including a pair of 16th place finishes on the Division I circuit.
Freshman Trevor Shepard rounded out the Red Storm with a 67th place finish in men's epee. Shepard's best performance of the NAC season was his eight place finish in the junior circuit of the November NAC.

The Red Storm will compete in a pair of events during the weekend of Jan. 26-27. On Saturday, Jan. 26, St. John's will host five elite programs (Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Harvard, and Columbia) during the St. John's Invitational. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and will be broadcasted live on ESPN3.
Then on Sunday, Jan. 27, the Red Storm will make the quick trip over to Manhattan for the NYU Invitational. St. John's will take on Notre Dame, Ohio State, Columbia, Wayne State, and host school NYU.
