• 2017 November North American Cup Results
QUEENS, N.Y. – In the second North American Cup of the season, three Red Storm fencers traveled to Kansas City, Mo., which featured some of the top junior fencers across the nation this past weekend, and the results were highlighted by Shomari Moore who finished in 50th in junior men’s epee.
In pool play action, Moore tallied four victories and outscored his opponents by nine touches to advance into the table of 256. Facing Alan Slavinsky, the sophomore Moore cruised to a 15-10 victory and in the next round, the Brooklyn native secured a 15-9 triumph to move into the table of 64. Next up, Moore came up short to Evan Rayle, 15-12, to earn a top-50 finish in the draw.
Fellow classmate of Moore, Omari Smoak also went 4-2 in the round robin pool play portion and picked up two victories in the knockout rounds. Smoak knocked off Savitoz Chilana and Aidan Kung by five touches apiece, before falling in the table of 64 for a 52nd place finish.
In junior men’s saber, Sal Centanni collected four wins to earn a bye in the table of 256, but fell short to Jared Smith in the round of 128 to come in 91st.
The Red Storm fencing team will head to the Brandeis Invitational for their first of four regular season collegiate bouts on Dec. 3 in Waltham, Mass.
