OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Ryan McAuliffe tossed 6.0 innings of one-run ball and Troy Dixon had three RBI as St. John’s increased its winning streak to seven games with an 8-1 victory at NYIT.

McAuliffe (3-0) racked up six strikeouts to earn the win for St. John’s (14-9-1), while Dixon finished 3-for-4. Michael Donadio went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and three runs scored, and Jesse Berardi was 2-for-4 with a solo home run.

Anthony Caradonna finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run for NYIT (11-15). Matt Diaz (1-2) took the loss after allowing six runs, three earned, in 5.0 innings of work.

St. John’s took advantage of a pair of errors to plate three runs in the first. Jamie Galazin started things with a one-out single and Donadio worked a walk before Robbie Knightes reached on an error as Galazin scored. Dixon then lined an RBI single into left, but an error allowed a second run to score as the Red Storm grabbed a 3-0 lead.

The Red Storm extended its lead with a two-out run in the third. After Galazin was plunked to lead off the inning, a sacrifice bunt and a groundout put a runner on third with two outs. Dixon then made it a 4-0 ballgame with an RBI single.

McAuliffe, meanwhile, retired six-straight batters before allowing consecutive two-out singles in the third. The righty, however, got out of the inning with a fielder’s choice.

St. John’s then went up 5-0 in the fourth after Berardi led off the inning with a home run to right field.

NYIT answered in the bottom of the fourth with a home run of its own. A Caradonna solo shot opened the frame and trimmed the Red Storm lead to 5-1.

The Red Storm used another two-out run to push its lead back to five in the fifth frame. Donadio started things with a one-out single before taking second on a groundout. Dixon followed with an RBI single as St. John’s took a 6-1 lead.

Donadio launched a one-out solo shot to right in the seventh as the Red Storm extended its lead to 7-1.

St. John’s manufactured a run in the eighth after Josh Shaw led off the inning with a ground rule double. A groundout moved Shaw to third before Gui Gingras made it 8-1 with an RBI groundout.

St. John’s concludes its series against NYIT on April 3 with a 1 p.m. game at The Jack.
