QUEENS, N.Y. - Junior Tim Morris was a perfect 6-for-6 with three doubles, three RBI and five runs scored to lead St. John's past Wagner, 18-9. Jimmy Parque was 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBI, while Joe Panik added a home run and three RBI to lead St. John's (18-10). Nick Cenatiempo (2-2) tallied six strikeouts in 4.1 shutout innings to earn the win. Jared Gruccio, Vin Avella, Jon Lucas, Seth Boyd and Matt Logan had two hits apiece to pace Wagner (11-11).
Wagner took an early lead with three runs in the first inning. Gruccio singled with one out and stole second before Avella singled to give the Seahawks runners on first and third. Lucas then singled to right center to put Wagner on the board. After a run came in on an error, Wagner went up 3-0 with a Chris Dreschel sacrifice fly.
St. John's responded with two runs in the bottom of the first after Brian Kemp got things started with a lead off walk. After Kemp moved to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a passed ball, Parque singled up the middle to put the Red Storm on the board. A Morris RBI single plated Parque to make it a 3-2 game.
Morris doubled to lead off the third as the Red Storm scored two more times to go up 4-2. After a Greg Hopkins single and a Panik walk loaded the bases, Carlos Del Rosario plated a run with an RBI groundout. Matt Wessinger followed with an RBI fielder's choice.
Dreschel led off a three-run fourth for Wagner with a solo home run. Joe Conforti followed with a one-out double before Brian Martutartus tripled. A Gruccio RBI single put the Seahawks up 6-4.
The Red Storm, though, would respond with a pair of two-run home runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 8-6. After a one-out single by Kemp, Parque launched a two-run homer over the fence in right center. Morris followed with a single and, after the second out was made, Panik blasted a two-run home run over the wall in right center.
St. John's added four more runs in the sixth to take a 12-6 lead. After Morris singled to open the inning, Del Rosario tripled with two outs. Gino Matias brought home Del Rosario with an RBI single and Paul Karmas followed with an RBI double. After Joe Witkowski drew a walk, a Kemp RBI single brought in Karmas for the 12-6 advantage.
Morris doubled again to lead off the seventh and scored on a Wagner error to give St. John's a 13-6 lead.
In the eighth the Red Storm added five more runs. Witkowski doubled with one out before David Fallon sent an RBI single through the right side. Parque singled before Morris lined a two-RBI double, his third two-bagger of the game. Hopkins reached on an error before a Panik RBI groundout and a Kevin Watkins RBI single made it 18-6.
St. John's heads to Morgantown, W.Va., for a three-game set against West Virginia. The Mountaineers are currently in first place in the BIG EAST, a game ahead of both St. John's and USF.
