Queens, NY - New York Tech junior Michael Striker allowed no runs on three hits through eight-plus innings and the Bears scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning, leading the visitors to a 1-0 win over No. 25 St. John's in front of 258 at The Ballpark on Thursday night.

St. John's falls to 33-14 overall, ending a six-game win streak. New York Tech improves to 20-19 overall as they beat the Red Storm for the second time in three meetings this season.

The Bears scored the lone run of the game in the sixth inning. Freshman Baker DeCamp hit a leadoff double to right off St. John's junior starter Anthony Varvaro (Staten Island, NY) and moved to third on a groundout Brian Nentwig. A wild pitch from Varvaro allowed the run to score, giving the Bears a 1-0 lead.

Striker, meanwhile, kept St. John's at bay. He gave up a leadoff single to senior Jim Martin (Norwood, MA) in the first, but proceeded to retire 12 of the next 13 batters. In the fifth, junior Will Vogl (Pacifica, CA) reached second on an error by right fielder Christian Diez, but was thrown out attempting to go to third. He retired the final two batters and St. John's went down in order in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively.

In the eighth, sophomore Anthony Smith (Katonah, NY) hit a leadoff single, but was thrown out at second on a bunt attempt from senior Blake Hershelman (Georgetown, DE). He induced a double play to end the inning.

Striker retired the first two batters in the ninth, but junior Greg Thomson (Levittown, NY) reached on an infield single. Reliever Chris Perez walked redshirt sophomore Chris Joachim (Massapequa Park, NY) to put runners on second and third, but Thomson was thrown out stealing to end the game.

Varvaro went seven innings, giving up one run on two hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Redshirt sophomore Rob Delaney (River Vale, NJ) threw the final two innings for St. John's.

St. John's hosts Fairleigh Dickinson in a doubleheader at The Ballpark on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
