QUEENS, N.Y. -
Coming off a freshman campaign that saw him garner National Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors from the organization, Sean Mooney has been named a First Team Preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
This accolade is the latest in a loaded preseason for the Ocean City High School product, as he has already earned Preseason All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and was named the BIG EAST Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
As a rookie last season, Mooney became just the second player in BIG EAST history to be named the BIG EAST Freshman and Pitcher of the Year simultaneously. He compiled a record of 8-2 with a 1.71 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP, both of which ranked in the top 10 nationally, in 100.0 innings of work. After striking out 88 and walking just 16 during his debut campaign, Mooney earned a spot on USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team for the summer.
For his efforts, Mooney was named a Third Team All-American by the NCBWA, Collegiate Baseball and the American Baseball Coaches Association. He also garnered Freshman All-America accolades from the NCBWA, Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, D1Baseball, and Perfect Game.
Mooney and the Red Storm kick off the 2018 campaign in less than two weeks, traveling to Buies Creek, N.C., for a three-game set with Campbell beginning on Feb. 16.
