QUEENS, N.Y. - On the third day of the 2014 MLB Draft, James Lomangino was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 18th round (533rd overall) to give St. John's at least one draft pick in each of the past eight seasons. Head coach Ed Blankmeyer has now seen 65 players drafted or signed to a professional contract, including at least one draft pick in each of the past eight seasons.

Lomangino becomes the fourth Red Storm player drafted by Colorado since the 2010 MLB Draft as the righty joins Matt Wessinger (5th round, 2012), Matt Carasiti (6th round, 2012) and Bruce Kern (23rd round, 2010).

Drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 14th round (431st overall) of the 2013 MLB Draft, Lomangino returned to school and earned first team All-BIG EAST honors this past season after going 6-5 with a 3.65 ERA in 15 starts for the Red Storm. The righty ranked second in the league with 85 strikeouts, while ranking third in the conference with 91.1 innings of work. Lomangino also limited the opposition to just a .231 batting average, which was good for fifth in the BIG EAST.

Lomangino went 10-12 with six saves and a 3.80 ERA in a three-year career with the Red Storm. The righty made 55 appearances, including 31 starts, and racked up 208 strikeouts in 210.2 innings of work. Lomangino tossed one complete game, posted three 10-strikeout performances and allowed just a .253 opponent average.
