Blankmeyer Releases BIG EAST Portion Of 2013 Baseball Schedule|

QUEENS, N.Y. - The entire St. John's schedule for the upcoming 2013 baseball season has not yet been finalized, but head coach Ed Blankmeyer has released the BIG EAST portion of the schedule that the reigning BIG EAST Tournament and regular season champions will face. The eight series, 24-game itinerary includes a three-game series at home against 2012 NCAA Regional squad and BIG EAST regular season co-champions Louisville and a road trip to face 2012 BIG EAST Tournament Finalists USF.
St. John's opens conference action at home against Pittsburgh (March 22-24) before hosting Cincinnati (March 28 & 30) for an Easter Weekend series that includes a Thursday doubleheader and a single game on Saturday.
The Red Storm then takes to the road for the next two weekends. After a three-game set at Connecticut (April 5-7), St. John's travels to Georgetown (April 12-14).
St. John's then welcomes Louisville (April 19-21) to Kaiser Stadium. The Red Storm and Cardinals shared the 2012 BIG EAST regular season title after finishing with identical 18-9 records.
A trip to Florida is next on the schedule as St. John's heads to USF (April 26-28) in a rematch of the 2012 BIG EAST Tournament Finals, a 7-3 Red Storm win that secured a conference-record seventh tournament crown.
After welcoming Notre Dame (May 11-12) to Queens for a series that features a Saturday doubleheader before a Sunday finale, St. John's finishes conference play on the road against local rival Seton Hall (May 16-18).
St. John's advanced to its first-ever NCAA Super Regional in 2012 after winnings its first NCAA Regional since 1980. The squad also won both the BIG EAST Tournament and regular season crowns in the same season for the first time in program-history and finished 40-23, notching its sixth 40-win season in the past eight years. Jeremy Baltz and Matt Wessinger both earned All-America honors and were among five players selected in the MLB Draft, including four chosen in the top six rounds.
