QUEENS, N.Y. - Kyle Hansen had five strikeouts in 5.0 innings of no-hit ball, while Jeremy Baltz and Eric Peterson each went 3-for-4 as Black defeated Red, 5-1, to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Intrasquad World Series. Six different players recorded an RBI to lead Black in the six-inning contest. Pat Talbut had the lone RBI for Red.
Hansen had one strikeout in a 1-2-3 first inning before the Black offense sent seven men to the plate in a two-run top of the second. Peterson led off the inning with a single and Julien Plana reached on a fielder's choice before Martin Kelly made it 1-0 with a RBI single. Matt Wessinger followed with an RBI fielder's choice and Black led 2-0.
Hansen added another strikeout in a 1-2-3 second inning and, once again, his offense responded in the following half inning. Anthony Iacomini reached on an error to lead off the third before Peterson singled and Bret Dennis made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly.
The only baserunner Hansen allowed was Michael Bradshaw, who led off the third inning by reaching on an error. The righty, however, responded by retiring the next three batters, including a strikeout to end the inning.
A one-out single by Baltz in the fourth helped give Black a 4-0 lead as the outfielder later scored on a Iacomini RBI fielder's choice.
A 1-2-3 fourth inning for Hansen preceded another run-scoring inning for Black as Plana led off the top of the fifth with a single and scored on a Frank Schwindel RBI groundout to make it 5-0.
Hansen went on to retire the final nine batters he faced, striking out two in a 1-2-3 fifth frame for this fourth 1-2-3 inning.
Dan Roland doubled off of reliever Collin Dinges to lead off the sixth inning and later scored on a Talbut sacrifice fly to make it a 6-1 game.
Red starter Brendan Lobban allowed four runs, three earned, in 4.0 innings of work.
