Chris Huey is in his first season as a graduate assistant on the St. John’s men’s basketball staff, bringing a variety of Division I experience to the program from stops at Santa Clara and Kansas. Huey primarily assists with all video operations, while also providing support to the coaching staff in the preparation of statistical analysis and scouting reports.
Huey came to Queens after spending the 2015-16 season at Santa Clara working for head coach Kerry Keating. As the team’s video coordinator, Huey managed the technical operations of capturing and coding practices and games, while also directing the implementation of video analysis into training and scouting activities. He also organized all video exchange and tracked statistical trends as advised by the coaching staff.
Prior to Santa Clara, Huey served as a men’s basketball student manager and video intern at Kansas from 2012-15. The Kansas City native was part of three Big 12 regular-season championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances with the Jayhawks, including a run to the Sweet 16 in 2013.
In his final year at Kansas, Huey practiced with the scout team and became the first manager in the Bill Self Era to suit up for a game. On Feb. 21, 2015 before a capacity crowd at Allen Fieldhouse, Huey played the final 35 seconds of an 81-72 victory over TCU.
A 2014 graduate of Kansas, Huey earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management with a minor in business. Huey is pursuing a master’s degree in sport management.
