Luca Virgilio has returned for his third season working with the St. John’s men’s basketball program. Virgilio was named assistant to the head coach prior to the 2016-17 campaign, after serving the previous two years as a graduate assistant.
In his administrative position, Virgilio provides support for a variety of daily operations within the program. His responsibilities include, managing the team’s schedule, organizing travel, and supervising student development activities. Virgilio also assists with the coordination of on-campus recruiting activities, maintaining NCAA compliance-related records and other duties as assigned by the head coach. Moreover, Virgilio’s knowledge of European basketball has helped elevate the program’s presence at the international level.
During his time as a graduate assistant, Virgilio fulfilled a number of functions related to day-to-day operations, maintained the team’s calendar and held oversight responsibility of the team managers.
In his first season with the program, Virgilio was part of St. John’s run to the 2015 NCAA Tournament. He aided both the assistant to the head coach and director of basketball operations with administrative responsibilities and team operations.
Virgilio graduated from St. John’s in May 2016, earning a master’s degree in sport management with a concentration in international dimension of sport.
Hailing from Italy, Virgilio earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration at Universita degli Studi di Roma Tre in 2012 and a master’s of science in Business Administration at Tor Vergata School of Economics in 2014.
