First Team All-BIG EAST... set the school's sophomore scoring record and finished eighth on the program's single-season scoring list with 647 points... became the 51st player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark and just the 10th to do so in his second year with the team... led the BIG EAST and ranked 18th nationally in scoring at 21.6 points per game... won the 2018 Haggerty Award as the top player in the New York Metropolitan Area, becoming the 23rd player in program history to do so and just the fifth to receive the accolade as an underclassman...named an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American... found spots on the NABC All-District Second Team and the USBWA All-District Team... recorded six 30-point performances, the most by a St. John's player in a single season since Marcus Hatten in 2002-03... poured in 20 or more points on 16 occasions... became just the eighth player in St. John's history to surpass the 40-point mark in a game, setting the Carnesecca Arena/Alumni Hall single-game scoring record with 44 points against Marquette on Feb. 10... also ranked fifth in the conference with 4.7 assists per game... a two-time BIG EAST Player of the Week who was also named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on seven occasions... named the National Player of the Week in back-to-back tries after helping the Red Storm to one of its most memorable stretches in program history... after scoring 31 points in a closely contested loss to No. 6 Xavier at Carnesecca Arena, Ponds netted 33 points and grabbed seven boards in the Johnnies' win over No. 4 Duke at Madison Square Garden... just three days later, he scored a team-high 26 points in the Red Storm's road victory over No. 1 Villanova, the program's first win over a top-ranked team since Jan. 26, 1985... registered 26 points in the Red Storm's second-straight BIG EAST Tournament victory over Georgetown... set a career high with 10 assists in a road win against DePaul on Feb. 14... named to the Preseason Watch List for the Jerry West Award.
As a Freshman (2016-17)
Set the St. John's freshman scoring record with 573 points, passing D'Angelo Harrison's previous mark of 544... led the team and ranked fifth in the conference with 17.4 points per game... poured in 17.9 points per game during BIG EAST action, good enough for third in the league... a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team... named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week a league-high five times (Dec. 12, Dec. 26, Jan. 2, Jan. 30, Feb. 27)... ranked second on the team 11th in the BIG EAST with 3.1 assists per game... finished third on the squad with 4.4 boards per game... led the BIG EAST and ranked 22nd in the nation with 2.1 steals per outing... with 2.3 steals per game in BIG EAST play, became the first freshman to lead the conference in that category since Providence's John Linehan in 1998-99... led the team and ranked fifth in the conference with 75 made 3-pointers, just one behind D'Angelo Harrison (76, 2011-12) for the St. John's single-season record...reached double figures in 30 of his 33 appearances, all of which were starts, and registered 11 performances of 20 points or more... an 82.3 percent free throw shooter, good enough for fifth in the conference in that category... reached double figures in 19-straight games after scoring eight in his collegiate debut against Bethune-Cookman (Nov. 11)...tallied his first collegiate double-double with 21 points and 10 boards against Binghamton (Nov. 14)... had 23 points and eight rebounds at Minnesota (Nov. 18)... scored a team-high 18 points against VCU (Nov. 24)... tallied 15 points of 4-of-5 shooting from deep and had four assists at Tulane (Dec. 2)... netted a then career-high 25 points and dished out five assists against CSUN (Dec. 5)... set a new career-high next time out with 26 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and four steals against Fordham (Dec. 8)... poured in 18 points in his first collegiate game in his home borough of Brooklyn against LIU (Dec. 11)... scored a game-high 21 points and dished out seven assists at Syracuse (Dec. 21)... tied a career high with 26 points and seven boards to lead SJU over No. 13 Butler (Dec. 29)... netted 17 points and grabbed five boards against Creighton (Jan. 4)... had 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists at Xavier (Jan. 7)... poured in 22 points and made six crucial free throws down the stretch in a road win at Providence (Jan. 25)... scored a game-high 23 points against Xavier (Jan. 29)... tallied 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals against Marquette (Feb. 1)... put up 17 points in the team's win over Seton Hall at The Garden (Feb. 11)... had 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists at Marquette (Feb. 21)... registered 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting in a win over Georgetown (Feb. 25)... scored a team-high 16 points and swiped a career-high six steals at Creighton (Feb. 28)... tallied a career-high 29 points to go along with seven boards and three steals against Providence (March 4)... recorded a team-high 17 points and five rebounds in the Red Storm's BIG EAST Tournament victory over Georgetown (March 8).
