QUEENS, N.Y. -

Head Coach Norm Roberts
On Anthony Mason Jr.’s progress:
“He is doing a great job trying to get back and help his team. We had hoped he’d come back earlier to gain timing before conference play, but he gives us energy and stability while finding his way.”

On Mason Jr.’s assimilation to the team:
“He is working on his speed and needs to be totally comfortable with his body and what he can do in a game. It will come. He has to get used to running full speed and getting bumped off of screens and it becomes more difficult in conference play.”

On getting the first BIG EAST win:
“You have to be happy you won, but you need a hunger to keep winning and keep on top. Games are coming hard and fast. There is no time to get too excited. You have to have a real hunger to keep winning.”

 Freshman Guard Malik Stith
On the tone of the team after defeating Cincinnati:
“We are happy. It feels like we needed it. We hope for more. Everyone is excited.” On the return of Mason Jr.:
“In practice we find out what he likes to do, where he shoots and his goods and bads. In a couple more games, he will be up to par.”

On the mindset on a deep team:
“You have to be as productive as you can when you get your minutes. Sometimes it is not your night, but you have to be ready when it is your night.”

On his mental preparation for a game:
“You try to be prepared and ready for anything. You have to be ready for five minutes of 15 minutes. You must be prepared for every situation and try to do everything the right way.”

Senior Guard Anthony Mason Jr.
On his speed after injury:
“You can’t just jump back into it full speed and expect to do everything you used to. You have to get used to the flow of the game and what’s going on.”

On not forcing on offense:
“Our team is good. We have a lot of weapons and a lot of people who can score and produce. I have no reason to force anything. I just want to get in and move the ball around and create for others. I have been out for a year. I am easing into it. Winning is the most important thing whether I’m taking one shot or 10 shots.”

On persevering through injury:
“Unless they take a limb, I am going to keep going. I can’t think about it, I just have to go on. You have to trust yourself when you get back and not think about what could happen. You have to be self-motivated because no one will do it for you.”

Junior Forward Justin Brownlee
On winning his first BIG EAST game:
“We can’t take anyone lightly. We have to stay focused after our win and come out and play hard. We are more confident and we have to play off of that.”

On his transition to Division I:
I am playing better, but I can do better. I need to be aggressive and play hard on every possession. You can’t take a play off or your man will beat you.”

On Mason Jr.’s leadership:
“He is a leader on our team on and off the court. He’s a very dedicated person and worked hard while he was injured. He practices hard and plays hard in every drill.”
