QUEENS, N.Y. – With the start of the 2017-18 season right around the corner, St. John’s has announced that Red Storm Tip-Off will take place on Friday, Oct. 13 inside Carnesecca Arena with special guest Dave East headlining the event.
A former collegiate basketball player at both Richmond and Towson, Dave East is a Harlem native that is widely regarded as one of the top up-and-coming young talents in the hip hop world. After releasing his mixtape Black Rose on Nas’ Mass Appeal record label, he signed with Def Jam Recordings last year and released his latest mixtape, Kairi Chanel. In addition, he was also featured on The Hamilton Mixtape from the 2015 Broadway musical alongside notable recording artists The Roots, Nas, Common, Chance The Rapper, Wiz Kahlifa, John Legend and Alicia Keys.
The Red Storm’s annual celebration to mark the beginning of college hoops season will also give St. John’s fans their first look at the 2017-18 men’s and women’s basketball teams. The action packed night will feature music by DJ Zeke, a St. John’s basketball alumni game, as well as several contests and giveaways. The first 800 students will receive a Red Storm Tip-Off t-shirt courtesy of RedZone and one student will be randomly selected for a chance to win a $25,000 scholarship.
Doors to the event will open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are free for all fans. The Carnesecca Arena Ticket Office will open at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, for St. John’s students. Student season ticket holders receive the benefit of having their Red Storm Tip-Off ticket automatically deposited into their online account. Beginning at 4 p.m., the Ticket Office will welcome season ticket holders, Red White members, alumni and the general public to pick up tickets.
