QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John’s head coach Chris Mullin has named Greg St. Jean an assistant coach on the men’s basketball staff. St. Jean brings a dynamic player development skill set combined with an NBA background to the Red Storm program.

“Greg is a star in the making,” said Mullin. “At such a young age, he has already put in a tremendous amount of time and energy into the profession of coaching. As a result, he has developed a unique combination of on-court skill development and conditioning experience, and infuses positive energy into everything he does. Greg wakes up each morning thinking about how he can make St. John’s better, make each individual better, and help our coaching staff.”

St. Jean spent the last two years working for the Sacramento Kings, most recently serving as the assistant player development coach during the 2014-2015 season. In this role, he helped manage the on-court training of Kings players, which included working with 2015 All-NBA Second Team selection and NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins, through implementing video and skill development sessions. St. Jean also generated extensive personnel reports and statistical analysis that was instrumental in the scouting process.

“I’m enthusiastic about this opportunity and honored to contribute to a program that already has such a rich history and winning tradition,” said St. Jean. “St. John’s is a prestigious University that I am privileged to represent as a member of Chris’ staff. I am prepared and excited for the challenges that lie ahead.”

A member of the 2014 Sacramento Kings Summer League coaching staff, St. Jean helped guide the team to a 6-1 record en route to a league championship, and mentored NBA lottery picks Ben McLemore and Nik Stauskas. He was elevated to an analytics and player development position prior to the 2014-15 season and worked with Rudy Gay, a former All-BIG EAST First Team honoree and Second Team All-American, as well as current Boston Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas.

The San Francisco Bay Area native joined the Kings organization prior to the 2013-14 campaign as a member of the video operations department. St. Jean was responsible for film break down of the team’s individual workouts, practices, games, and upcoming opponents. He assisted with all on-court activities and managed intercollegiate and international video analysis for the NBA Draft and free agency.

St. Jean spent two summers with the Brooklyn Nets where he assisted with the NBA Draft combine, free agent minicamp, summer league practices, and player development workouts. He was a member of the Nets coaching staff for the NBA Summer League in Orlando. He was responsible for managing in-game statistics, film preparation, scouting, and all on-court activities.

A three-year team captain at Wesleyan University, St. Jean ranked in the top-10 of NCAA Division III in free-throw shooting percentage (89.3) as a freshman. He helped lead the Cardinals to the program’s single-season wins record in 2011-12 and was a member of Wesleyan’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). His father, Garry St. Jean, coached 17 years in the NBA and was the Golden State Warriors general manager from 1998-2004.
