QUEENS, N.Y. -
Head Coach Norm Roberts
On the season so far:
"We have played well in spurts. We need to become more consistent in putting long runs together. We have had different guys step up to win ball games. We need to continue to defend, rebound and make shots. We certainly have more versatility and depth than ever before."
"They play hard and shoot well. They are a determined team. The bottom line is that they've played well on those days against us and we haven't. They made more shots and plays than us. We have to focus because we know we are playing a good team. We need to be in attack mode and make free throws against them. Every game is a different situation. It is never the same."
On Malik Boothe:
"He will do anything that gives our team the best chance to win. He doesn't care about individual stats because at the end of the day there is only one stat for a point guard - winning and losing. If he's not scoring, he will find a different way to help our team. Nobody will out-work him."
Junior Guard Dwight Hardy
On the matchup with Hofstra:
"Coach has told us how important it is that we get after them right from the start. They've beaten us four straight times. This is important for us. We have the edge and we need to come out and compete at a high level to get the win."
On Malik Boothe:
"He represents toughness. He is a leader and one of our best defenders. He sets the tempo for us on defense. He has a strong passion for the game and won't back down from anybody."
Freshman Forward Omari Lawrence
Junior Forward Justin Burrell
On being off crutches:
On Chaz Williams:
"He is a fast-tempo guard who will look underneath for guys. He is also a good defender."
"I got off crutches early this week and took the boot off yesterday. It feels great. When you don't think about it, you don't realize there is a problem. There is a pep in my step. I will see the doctor on Sunday to reevaluate and I will continue treatment to try to regain mobility until then."
On facing Hofstra:
"We want to make the next step to win this area. We beat Fordham and now we need to beat Hofstra to prove we are the best in the area."
Junior Guard Malik Boothe
On the four-game losing streak against Hofstra:
"We are going to come out and play hard. We don't want the fifth loss against us. Any team can beat anyone on any given night and we have to go out there and get it."
On what it means to be a point guard:
"It means being able to get guys shots. It means being a leader vocally and by actions. You need to be an extension of the coach on the court. You have to be the common factor."
