Jamaica, NY Three St. Johns student-athletes have been named to the Verizon Academic All-District First Team. Omar Chavez and Jeff Stoklosa of mens soccer and Alex Royblat of the mens fencing team were three of ten student-athletes selected out of 74 nominees to be placed on the first team.
Stoklosa (Newark, DE/Salesianum School) was a four-year letter-winner for the Red Storm. The goalkeeper, who helped St. Johns to a BIG EAST title in 1998, has maintained a 3.90 GPA while at St. Johns. He achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA while allowing just 11 goals during the season. Stoklosa, a computer science major, was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week twice this season.
Teammate Chavez (Westchester, NY/New Rochelle/Felician College) also saw much success during his career, with a 3.53 GPA. The graphic design major managed a 3.0 GPA while leading a St. Johns defense that recorded 10 shutouts and allowed only 14 goals, including just four in the BIG EAST. Chavez, the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week three times last season, started all 21 games for the Red Storm and was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team.
Royblat (Ashdod, Israel/Ort Oleysky) maintained a 3.90 GPA while at St. Johns as a Criminal Justice major. The senior has finished among the top three in the epee at the NCAA Championships in the last three seasons, capturing the NCAA individual title in 1999. He was also a three-time All-American. Royblat has qualified for this years NCAA Championships in the epee.
