The St. John’s men’s golf team concluded its first tournament of the spring slate on Monday, as the Red Storm placed 15th at the Loyola Intercollegiate.
In his first outing with the St. John’s men’s golf team, Austin Briggs made a memorable first impression, after leading the Johnnies with a combined seven-under 209 over three rounds of play. Briggs carded a team-best 68 in the final round, highlighted by six birdies, to finish in the top-20.
Ross Moore drained four birdies in the final round of play, with three coming on the front-nine, to post a two-under 70 and an overall 212 (-4).
Gerald Mackedon had a solid performance in the final round, the sophomore turned in a 73(+1), while Andrew Baek and Matthew Sweeney rounded out scoring for the Johnnies, both recording a 232 (+16), respectably.
James Smoot and Jonathan Spicci competed in the individual portion of the tournament, shooting a total 235 and 244. As a team, the Red Storm registered an 862 (-2) to finish ahead of four teams.
College of Charleston maintained its top spot throughout all three rounds, carding a combined 816 (-48) to finish 13-strokes ahead of second-place SIU Edwardsville.
Individually, Ambrose Abbracciamento of Hartford jumped three spots to claim a first place finish after shooting a combined 199 (-17). Logan Sowell from College of Charleston and Tyler Lewis of Eastern Michigan finished in a tie for second after carding a 200 (-16).
The Red Storm will return to action next Monday when the team travels to Florida to compete in the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate.
