HUMACAO, Puerto Rico - Mike Ballo Jr. carded a 4-under 68 and the St. John’s men’s golf team moved up to third place after shooting a 3-under 285 on Tuesday in the second round of the Palmas Del Mar Invitational at The Flamboyan in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
The host Red Storm started the day in sixth place, but moved up the leaderboard following strong performances by Mike Ballo Jr. and Peter Ballo. At 2-under 142, Mike Ballo Jr. is tied for first place with Rollins’ J.D. Guiney and South Carolina Upstate’s Josh Gallman. Peter Ballo rebounded from a first-round 80 by shooting a 2-under 70 to move into a tie for 21st place at 6-over 150 . Jeremy Quinn matched his first-round score with a 74 (+2) on Tuesday and he is tied for 15th at 4-over 142. Mark Costanza improved his first-round score by six strokes, carding a 73 (+1) to move to 8-over 152. Evan Beirne shot a 78 (+6) and sits at 10-over 154.
St. John’s heads Wednesday’s final round at 12-over 588. STJ trails first-place USC Upstate (2-under 574) by 14 strokes. The Red Storm is four shots back of second place, where Old Dominion sits at 8-over 584.
The Red Storm tees off the final round Wednesday starting at 9 a.m. from the first tee. STJ is paired up with USC Upstate and Old Dominion.
