St. John's In Fifth After First Round Of Big 5 Championship|

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - With Evan Beirne, Mark Costanza and Ryan McCormick all in the top 20, the St. John’s men’s golf team positioned itself in fifth place following Saturday’s first round of the Big 5 Championship at Plymouth Country Club.
Red Storm golfers combined for a 12-over 292 team score and St. John’s is nine strokes back of Furman, which leads the 21-team field at 3-over 283. Princeton (9-over 289) is in second and Villanova and Campbell (11-over 291) are tied for third. Furman’s Matthew Broome leads all individuals after carding a 4-under 66.
Beirne led the way for the Red Storm, shooting a 1-over 71 on the first day of the 36-hole event. The team captain totaled three birdies on holes no. 6, 17 and 18. Costanza and McCormick are tied for 19th at 3-over 73. Costanza had birdies on the ninth, 17th and 18th holes. McCormick birdied the sixth and the 11th.
The Red Storm tees off Sunday’s final round from the first hole starting at 7:45 a.m.
