BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The St. John’s men's golf team saw success on the links of the Saucon Valley Country Club on Friday, as the Red Storm carded a combined 304 (+16) to finish in a fourth-place tie after round one of the Lehigh Invitational
“We played well from tee to green today,” St. John’s head coach Mal Galletta said. “We had a little trouble on the greens, however, the guys felt the putts were all close to going in. I definitely feel tomorrow should be a good scoring day for us and the conditions look to be great.“
Transfer Ross Moore led the Johnnies draining five birdies to card a three-over 75 on day one, earning himself a top-ten finish as he enters the final round of play on Saturday.
Junior Andrew Baek sank four birdies on the day to finish the opening round at four-over 76 to share the 16th spot with teammate Gerald Mackedon. Sophomore James Smoot registered a five-over 77, while junior Matthew Sweeney rounded out the scorecard for the Johnnies with a nine-over 81.
Billy Johns of Lehigh currently holds a two-stroke lead at the top of the leader board after carding one-under 71. The host Mountain Hawks enter Saturday holding an eight-stroke lead over Hofstra and Bucknell, who are tied for second.
The teams will continue action on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with the Johnnies scheduled to begin play at 10:30 a.m.
