ROSLYN, N.Y. - The St. John's men's golf team hosted its Golf Classic for the second-consecutive year on Monday at the Engineers Country Club in Roslyn N.Y. to help raise funds for the men's golf team.
Friends and alumni of the St. John's golf community, including St. John's Athletic Director Anton Goff, lined the course to participate in the event. Over 60 golfers took to the links to play 18 holes at the 12:30 p.m. event.
"This is such an important event," Goff said. "Having the support of the local community, Engineers Country Club, as well as, alums and other people coming out to support the golf team is really important. This is what it is all about, to be able to have the resources that allow our student athletes to compete at the highest level."
The outing served as a way to raise funds for the Red Storm men's golfers, helping them to succeed both on the field and in the class room. In addition, it allowed friends, family, and alumni to come together and interact with this year's squad and St. John's head coach Mal Galletta.
"After speaking with Coach Galletta, this event is something we want to continue to do every year," said Goff. "We want to continue expanding and getting more people involved to help give our student athletes even more opportunities."
Following a day of golf, attendees were treated to a cocktail reception and dinner, accompanied by a silent auction to help raise proceeds for the men's golf program. The auction included many unique items such as an Arnold Palmer vintage photo and a foursome package for the Engineers Country Club.
"Thank you to everyone who came out and participated," Galletta said. It means a lot seeing all the support from the St. John's golf community as well as all the help from our sponsors and staff. With their time and dedication, we were able to put together another outstanding event."
Following the event, the St. John's men's golf team will resume action as they prepare for the final fall tournament on Oct. 20th in Bethlehem, Pa. for the Lehigh Invitational.
