QUEENS, N.Y. -
Sophomore Harry Kutner was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the league office today. The attacker scored three goals on Saturday to help lead St. John’s (1-0, 0-0) over Holy Cross (0-1, 0-0), 9-8.
A native of Garden City, N.Y., Kutner finished fourth on the team last year with 15 goals and 11 assists. This award comes as his second weekly honor as Kutner was named ECAC Player of the Week on March 23, 2009.
Kutner scored all three of his goals in the first half against Holy Cross. The last score came with less than thirty seconds before intermission as Kutner dove through three defenders and shot the ball while horizontal to the ground. The goal gave St. John’s its largest lead of the game at 7-3.
The Red Storm also received team recognition as St. John’s received votes in the USILA Top 20 Coaches Poll. St. John’s was ranked as high as 15th in the Coaches Poll last year after the team started the season 4-0.
St. John’s travels to Colorado this Saturday, Feb. 27, to face off against Air Force. Game time is slated for 2 p.m. ET, moved up an hour from the originally posted 3 p.m. ET.
