QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a near upset of top-10 foe North Carolina, goalkeeper Matt Hanley and attacker Colin Duffy were honored by the BIG EAST Conference with a pair of awards on Monday.
Hanley was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week following his best day as a Johnnie. The senior turned aside 15 shots and collected a team-high four groundballs in the 9-8 defeat to the Tar Heels. Saturday marked only the third time over the past two seasons a goalkeeper has held UNC under 10 goals while making 15-or-more saves.
The Bethpage, N.Y., native currently ranks 11th in the country and leads the BIG EAST in saves per game with 11.50. His 51.1 save percentage also sits in the top half of the nation.
Duffy was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after leading the Johnnies with a trio of points against the Tar Heels. The junior scored a pair of goals and collected his first assist of the season in-route to a three-point outing.
The junior currently ranks second on the team in goals with nine, and his 52.9 shooting percentage ranks third in the conference and 15th overall.
St. John's returns to the field tomorrow afternoon against Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia.
