QUEENS, N.Y. – After netting a game-winning goal with just 27 seconds left to play, Joe Madsen has been named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Senior LSM Kyle Skramko also landed a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his performance in the Red Storm’s thrilling 13-12 victory over Siena on Sunday afternoon.
After Siena tied the contest at 12 apiece with 39 seconds left to play, the Red Storm won the ensuing faceoff. Jack McClellan found Madsen, who scored his third goal of the game with just 27 seconds left. This goal, which he bounced past Siena’s netminder low, gave the Johnnies a 13-12 lead in the game and ultimately the Red Storm’s first win of the season.
Madsen led the Red Storm attack with four points in the contest on three goals and an assist. The Locust Valley, N.Y., native netted each of the three shots he took on Sunday afternoon.
Skramko, a senior from Garden City, N.Y., caused two turnovers and picked up three groundballs in the Red Storm’s victory. The LSM also scored his second goal of the season in the third quarter following a faceoff victory by Justin Corpolongo.
The senior last appeared on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll when he was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week as a sophomore in 2015.
