The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced the men's and women's nominees for the Tewaaraton Award, presented by Calico Jack's, and St. John's Kieran McArdle has been named one of the 25 finalists for the National Player of the Year Award.
In mid-May, five men's and five women's finalists will be announced. These finalists will be invited to Washington, D.C. for the 13th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, May 30 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
His overall consistency has earned McArdle the second overall spot in the NCAA for points per game (6.58), and assists per game (3.92). McArdle also ranks ninth in goals per game (2.67). The junior has turned in eye-popping numbers all season long, as McArdle owns the highest and second-highest single game point totals of the season. The Ronkonkoma, N.Y. native totaled 13 points against Robert Morris on March 23 and 12 points against Rutgers on March 16.
McArdle is now among St. John's all-time leaders in points, goals and assists. The junior's 178 points has him ranked second on the all-time list and is the most since program reinstatement in 2005. McArdle's 81 career goals are good for third on the all-time goal scorers list. His 97 assists also place him third all-time and the most since the program was restarted.
Teammate Jeff Lowman joined McArdle on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. It was the second-straight year the senior goalie was included on the Watch List.
