BIG EAST Release

For the second time in as many years, the St. John’s men’s lacrosse and women’s soccer programs were honored for having the highest GPA in the BIG EAST for their respective sports, the conference announced Wednesday.

The lacrosse program continues to display its tradition of excellence in the classroom with the program’s fifth BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence award in the past six seasons. Under Head Coach Jason Miller, the Johnnies have now won three-straight BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence awards after earning back-to-back awards in 2011-12 and 2012-13. Overall, the Red Storm posted a 3.42 cumulative GPA.

Led by 2016 NSCAA Scholar All-East Region Second Team and All-America Third Team selection Diana Poulin, the women’s soccer program finished the 2016-17 academic year with a 3.73 GPA. Under Head Coach Ian Stone, this year marks the third time that women’s soccer has won the BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award after the program also took home the award following the 2015-16 and 2009-10 seasons.
