Ben Mallue is in his first season as an assistant coach with the men's soccer team, but has been involved with the program for five seasons.
Most recently serving as a graduate assistant, Mallue has climbed his way through the ranks since first serving as a student manager in 2005. In that five-year span, the squad reached the NCAA Tournament four times, advanced to the College Cup once, won two BIG EAST Tournament crowns and added one BIG EAST regular season title.
Mallue has been involved in many aspects of the team's operations, including video scouting of opponents, game preparation, facilitating team travel and organizing team meals and meetings. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native also supervised student managers, screened recruiting videos, helped manage a summer camp program that enrolls more than 750 campers and promoted and operated a 40-team youth tournament.
After one season as a student manager, Mallue was promoted to head student manager and served in that capacity for the next two seasons. As a senior, Mallue earned a spot on the roster and appeared in three games as a midfielder for a Red Storm squad that went 19-3-3 and advanced to the College Cup.
Mallue was the recipient of the James Kevin Beatty Memorial Award in 2007. Presented annually by the St. John's Athletic Department, the award is presented to the team manager "who plays an important role for his team and performs his duties with dignity and grace."
A 2009 graduate of St. John's with a B.A. in government and politics, Mallue is currently pursuing his M.A. in government and politics.
