QUEENS, N.Y. - A trio of 2011 NSCAA All-Region selections highlight a group of five local signees set to join the St. John's men's soccer program in the Fall of 2012 as head coach Dr. Dave Masur has formally announced the signings of Daniel Bedoya, Mike LaRose, Brandon Savino, Sean Sepe and Jelani Williams.

"We are really excited about how our recruiting class is taking shape for the upcoming season and we are pleased to have some of the best local talents joining our program," said Masur. "The foundation of this class is built around offensive players with a great attacking prowess and defensive players with a strong presence and we know that they will contribute both on and off the field."

Named the Queens Player of the Year, Bedoya scored 16 goals and added 14 assists to help lead Francis Lewis to the PSAL Class A Finals. The Fall 2011 winner of the PSAL Wingate Award, presented to a senior for outstanding achievements in their respective sport, Bedoya is a member of the U.S. Development Academy New York Red Bulls.

A defender out of Seton Hall Prep, LaRose earned second team All-State Non-Public honors as well as first team All-Essex, first team All-Super Essex Conference and first team All-Essex County honors as a senior. The defender is both a two-time all-conference and all-county honoree.

A teammate of LaRose at Seton Hall Prep and a member of the U.S. Development Academy U18 PDA squad, Savino earned NSCAA All-Region accolades and was a first team All-State, first team All-State Non-Public, first team All-Essex, first team All-Super Essex Conference and first team All-Essex County honoree as a senior after tallying four goals and nine assists. A two-time first team all-conference and first team all-county selection, the defender also earned second team All-State Non-Public honors as a junior.

LaRose and Savino helped the Pirates win the 2009 state championship as well as three-straight county and conference titles.

Sepe tallied 18 goals and three assists as a senior for West Islip to earn NSCAA All-Region accolades. The fourth team all-state selection also earned all-county honors after helping lead West Islip to the Suffolk County Class AA Finals.

An NSCAA All-Region selection and a member of the U.S. Development Academy U18 PDA squad, Williams earned Essex County Player of the Year honors and was a first team all-state, first team all-conference and first team All-Essex County selection after scoring 19 goals for West Orange. A two-time first team all-conference and first team All-Essex County honoree, Williams also scored 26 goals as a junior.

The quintet of local signings is just the beginning of a recruiting class poised to join a roster of 18 returning letterwinners from a 2011 squad that reached the NCAA Tournament for the 18th time in program history and won a conference-record ninth BIG EAST Tournament crown.
