A second team NSCAA All-Northeast Region and first team All-BIG EAST honoree this past season, redshirt junior Rafael Diaz has been listed as one of the top 10 goalkeepers in the country as selected in no particular order by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
The three-year starter is 29-15-7 in his career with 23 shutouts and a 0.86 goals against average in 51 games. Diaz enters the 2013 campaign already ranked fifth all-time in program-history in shutouts and tied for fifth in wins.
Diaz, who started all 19 games and played all 1,790 minutes in net this past season, went 10-5-4 and matched a career-high with eight shutouts. The keeper posted a career-best 0.75 goals against average and added a .795 save percentage, while also finishing tied for the league-lead with four shutouts in regular season conference play.
The keeper went 9-4-1 with seven shutouts in 15 starts as a redshirt sophomore in 2011.
A second team Soccer America All-Freshman selection and a BIG EAST All-Rookie honoree as a redshirt freshman, Diaz started all 18 games in 2010 and went 10-6-2. The keeper, who closed regular season play with six-straight clean sheets, posted eight shutouts on the year to go with a 0.84 goals against average and a .831 save percentage.
