QUEENS, N.Y. - Matchups against two of the last four NCAA National Champions and a total of seven games against teams that participated in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, including a pair that reached the College Cup, highlight an 18-game regular season schedule in 2013 for the St. John's men's soccer team, as announced by head coach Dr. Dave Masur.

"We work each season to create a schedule that will both challenge our student-athletes and provide them with a great experience, goals that are accomplished by providing the opportunity to play some of the best teams in the country," remarked Masur. "We are excited about this schedule and also about the strength and depth of the new-look BIG EAST Conference."

St. John's will take to the field for a pair of exhibition games before the regular season begins as the Red Storm hosts Boston University (Aug. 20) before concluding the preseason portion of the schedule on the road against Maryland (Aug. 24).

The regular season opens under the lights at Belson Stadium with a Friday night game against NJIT (Aug. 30) before St. John's heads south to take on Virginia (Sept. 2), a 2012 NCAA Tournament squad and the 2009 NCAA National Champions.

The Red Storm then returns to Queens and opens a four-game homestand with a showdown against Akron (Sept. 6), another 2012 NCAA Tournament squad and the 2010 NCAA National Champions. After welcoming Penn State (Sept. 8) and South Carolina (Sept. 13) to Belson Stadium, St. John's hosts former BIG EAST foe West Virginia (Sept. 15).

Conference play follows as St. John's travels to Omaha to take on 2012 NCAA College Cup participant and new BIG EAST member Creighton (Sept. 21) in the first meeting between the two teams since the Red Storm defeated the Jays, 3-2, in the 2003 NCAA Quarterfinals.

The Red Storm stays on the road to take on BIG EAST rival DePaul (Sept. 28) before concluding a three-game road trip against FDU (Oct. 1), a squad that advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

After returning home and resuming BIG EAST play against Providence (Oct. 5), St. John's hosts non-conference opponent La Salle (Oct. 8) in the first-ever matchup between the two programs.

Following a trip to Villanova (Oct. 12), St. John's concludes regular season non-conference play and opens a three-game homestand against Princeton (Oct. 15). The Red Storm then welcomes Xavier (Oct. 19), a 2012 NCAA Tournament team and another new addition to the BIG EAST Conference, before hosting 2012 NCAA Tournament squad Marquette (Oct. 23).

A trip to Indianapolis to face Butler (Oct. 26) represents the third and final regular season matchup against the trio of first-year BIG EAST schools.

St. John's then hosts 2012 NCAA College Cup participant and National Finalist Georgetown (Nov. 2) in a Senior Night matchup at Belson Stadium before concluding the regular season on the road against local foe Seton Hall (Nov. 8).

Six of the 10 conference schools will qualify for the BIG EAST Championship, which begins with a quarterfinal round (Nov. 12) on campus sites. The semifinals (Nov. 15) and finals (Nov. 17) will take place in Philadelphia, Pa., at PPL Park, home to the Philadelphia Union of the MLS.

The NCAA Tournament first round (Nov. 21), second round (Nov. 24), third round (Dec. 1) and quarterfinals (Dec. 6-8) will be played at campus sites. The College Cup Semifinals (Dec. 13) and Finals (Dec. 15) will be played in Philadelphia, Pa., at PPL Park.

St. John's returns 13 letterwinners from a squad that went 10-5-4 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the 19th time in program-history last season.
