Senior defender Jack Bennett has earned Capital One Academic All-District first team honors as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). As a first team selection, Bennett is now added to the ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration.
A sport management major with a 3.64 GPA, Bennett is one of six players to start in all 17 games this season and leads the team in goals (5), assists (4) and points (14). Bennett, who is also tied for the team-lead with three game-winning goals, helped the defense post eight shutouts in the regular season.
St. John's players have now accumulated a total of 19 CoSIDA Academic All-District selections since the 2000 season, including 13 first team honorees. The program also boasts 10 CoSIDA Academic All-America selections and a pair of CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year winners, including Matt Groenwald (2004) and Chris Wingert (2003).
Following a First Round bye in the BIG EAST Tournament, No. 13/25 St. John's (10-3-4), opens postseason play at 1 p.m. on Nov. 3 with a Quarterfinal matchup at No. 4/6 Georgetown.
