    QUEENS, N.Y. - After a win in the NCAA Round of 16, the third-seeded St. John's men's soccer team will host sixth-seeded Indiana in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The two teams will take to the field at 5 p.m. on Dec. 6. After defeating BU, 1-0, in the second round, St. John's (18-2-3) defeated UC Irvine, 3-2, in the Round of 16. Indiana defeated Michigan, 3-0, in the Round of 16 after defeating Saint Louis, 2-0, in the second round.

    Inside The Series

  • This will be the fifth meeting between the two teams in a series that began in 2001. The all-time series is even at 2-2-0.
  • This will also be the third time that the teams have met in the NCAA Tournament, with both of those meetings coming in the College Cup.
  • Indiana defeated St. John's in double overtime, 2-1, in the 2001 NCAA Semifinals. The Hoosiers were also victorious, 2-1, in the 2003 NCAA Finals.
  • St. John's won the first-ever meeting, 2-1, at Indiana in 2001 and also won 3-0 at home in 2002.

    Scouting The Indiana Hoosiers

  • Indiana (14-6-3) received an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Hoosiers defeated Ohio State and Michigan to reach the Big Ten Championship game, but fell in the title game to Michigan State, 1-0.
  • After a first round bye in the NCAA Tournament, Indiana is coming off a 2-0 win against Saint Louis in the second round and a 3-0 win against Michigan in the Round of 16.
  • Andy Adlard leads the offense with seven goals and five assists.
  • Will Bruin (6g, 0a), Kevin Noschang (4g, 1a) and John Mellencamp (4g, 1a) help pace the offense.
  • Chay Cain is 14-6-3 with a 0.88 goals against average and 10 shutouts.
     

     

    St. John's In The NCAA Tournament
  • St. John's is making its 16th NCAA Tournament appearance, all under head coach Dr. Dave Masur. The Red Storm has posted a 24-14-1 record in the tournament.
  • St. John's won the 1996 NCAA National Championship and has two other appearances in the College Cup (2001 and 2003).
  • From 1996-2005, the Red Storm was the only program in the country to reach 10-consecutive NCAA Rounds of 16.

  • This is the 22nd NCAA Tournament game that St. John's has hosted.
  • The Red Storm is 16-4-1 all-time at home in the tournament and is unbeaten (8-0-1) in its last 9 NCAA contests in Queens.

    Wegge Gundhus Tallies Second-Straight NCAA Tournament Game-Winner

  • After becoming the tenth different St. John's player to notch a game-winner in the Red Storm's 1-0 second round win against BU, Sverre Wegge Gundhus tallied the game-winner in a 3-2 win against UC Irvine.
  • Wegge Gundhus has two goals and one assist for a team-best five points in the squad's two NCAA Tournament games.
