Dec. 14, 2004 Tuesday, December 14, 2004, Queens, NY -- The St. John's University men's and women's soccer teams were among a group of schools honored recently with the Team Academic Award by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. To earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award, a team must have a combined grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. The Red Storm teams were among a group of 363 to earn the honor. St. John's was one only 49 schools nationwide to have both its men's and women's teams named recipients of the Academic Award. The Red Storm men's team posted a combined grade-point average of 3.06. St. John's was one of three BIG EAST schools to earn the honor, joining Georgetown and Notre Dame. On the women's side, St. John's posted a combined team grade-point average of 3.25. They were also one of three league schools to be named by the NSCAA, joining Georgetown and Notre Dame. The St. John's men's soccer team finished the 2004 season with a 12-6-4 record and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four years. The Red Storm women's team finished the season with a 10-8-1 record overall, advancing to play in the BIG EAST Tournament for the third-straight year.
